Being a blogger requires so much more than just writing. You have to create high-quality content that will drive organic traffic to your blog. This is where a lot of bloggers get lost. I’m going to give you proven ways to get your blog noticed by Google and get traffic to a new blog!
Why is organic traffic so important? Organic traffic is FREE traffic from the search engines. Organic traffic allows the flow of traffic to come to your site without advertising your blog constantly. It also allows you to not depend on Pinterest to drive readers to your site.
How to Get Traffic to a New Blog
The first step to improve your blog traffic is to find out how much organic traffic your site is currently receiving. You will want to use Google Console and Google Analytics
Click on the Performance tab within the Google console, and from there, you will see how you rank in Google. It will also show you the keywords people queried when your site was shown. Google Console will also display if you have any issues with your site. If there are issues with your site, you will want to fix them as soon as possible.
Technical issues can be a contributing factor in not receiving organic traffic. But we will cover that issue a little later. You can also do site audits by using sites such as semrush to uncover issues that might be preventing you from increasing pageviews on your blog.

Use Relevant Keywords
One of the most crucial factors in search engine optimization is using the correct keywords. (You can use an SEO toolkit to help you) You want these keywords to be relevant to your blog post.
So let’s say you have a Mom Blog, one of your most-used keywords would be kids, or children. Because this is a topic that your blog post will be about.
However, it’s a little bit more complicated than that. We also have what we call long-tail keywords. Long-tail keywords are three to four keyword phrases that are very specific to your topic or product.
An example of a long-tail keyword related to blogging would be “ How do I get more views on my blog” or “Why is my blog not getting visitors.”
Now that we have a clear understanding of keywords, it’s time to learn how to use them to drive traffic to your site.
Have you ever wondered how other bloggers manage to rank so high on Google when you have similar content? It’s all due to how you chose to use the keywords you want to use to get your free traffic to a new blog.
When you are creating content for your blog, you want to strategically use keywords. Although you want to have plenty of keywords relevant to your content, you still want to avoid keyword stuffing to rank in the search results.
What is Keyword Stuffing? Keyword Stuffing is when you put too many SEO keywords onto a page. Stuffing tons of keywords in a post can get you penalized by Google. And that is something you definitely do not want.
How Do I get More Views on my Blog
Update Old Blog Post -Another great tactic to gain traffic is to revitalize your old blog post. You will be amazed at the great content you can add to your post to start generating more traffic. You can perform an on-page SEO check to review your old post for any previous keyword mistakes. Updating your old post with the correct keywords will help gain more organic traffic to your website.
Correctly Using H1 Tag-I had no clue what H1 tags were before I started blogging. An H1 tag is a defined element in HTML. (HyperText Markup Language)Incorrectly using an H1 tag can hurt your SEO. Using too many H1 tags can harm your search engine optimization efforts.
Why? When Google attempts to index your site and identifies multiple H1 tags on a page, it’s harder to contextualize your page. H1 tags should only be used for the most critical content on your page. Here’s how to find out if you are using multiple H1 tags and how to fix it.
Right, Click (I’m using A Mac so it might be a left click for you) on your published post and scroll to view the source.
Then click Control +F. This will make h1 appear, click enter, and it will show you how many H1 tags you have on that particular page. I had a lot of H1 tags, which was hurting my organic traffic.
Now, if you don’t have time to do this, for all of your posts. Use the SEMrush domain overview tool, and it will show you which blog post have H1 tags, misused. To fix this problem, simply go into your blog post, and change the H1 tags to a different size. (H1 Tags are usually incorrectly used in subheadings)
Technical Issues Can Decrease Your Free Blog Traffic
A properly running website is the best way to get traffic to your blog for free. Google has indicated that site speed (page loading time) is one of the signals used by its algorithms to rank pages.
This means a slow website speed will negatively impact your search engine rankings. Websites with slower loading speeds also creates a bad user experience. Sites such as Google insights can reveal your website speed.
What causes your site to run slow?
Oversized Images– Having uncompressed images can slow down your site dramatically. You can use plugins such as Imagify to compress your images. Compressing your images can improve your page loading time, especially if you have many attachments and images within your site.
Too many plugins and widgets. — Running your blog, you need various plugins for different functionalities. However, if it’s a plug-in that you are no longer using, deactivate it and delete it.
One plugin that is a must-have to improve your website speed is WP Rocket. Download this plug-in to improve your loading speed. It works to cache your site. It also compresses static files, which also contributes to lower loading times.
A backlink is a link one website gets from another website. Using backlinks correctly can make a huge difference with improving your website’s SEO ranking. There are two types of backlinks
Imagine you did a guest blog for HuffPost that would be considered a backlink. Because the Huffington Post is well known and has a high ranking with Google, that would signal to Google that you are the real deal. This means you just got a bump in your SEO ranking!
Now obtaining backlinks take time and hard work, but it can be done. Here are ways you can secure backlinks.
Guest Blogging- Do you know any other bloggers in your niche? If so, guest blog on their blog to obtain a backlink. If you don’t know of any bloggers, join a blogging group on Facebook and network with other bloggers. I have a post, “The Best Sites For Free Guest Posting,” containing various sites that allow guest blogging from new bloggers.
Make sure you check a site’s domain authority. The higher, the better. However, this also means the higher their domain authority, the harder it might be to guest post. Don’t be discouraged. It just means you going to need to bring your A-game.
Indexing your Site with Search Engines
This step to gaining more organic traffic for free might sound like a no brainer. Many people actually forget or simply don’t know how to index their site with the search engines. If your site isn’t indexed with search engines, they will not know that your site exists.
Create Various Types of Blog Post
My favorite way to creating an explosion of organic traffic is by using roundup post, or list post. People seem to love articles that provide them with a list of resources, or tools solutions to their problems.
Resource posts are also beneficial for getting traffic to a new blog for free. Blog posts that give your readers multiple resources to solve their problems are always a hit. Who doesn’t love having multiple choices?
And the more resources, the better. My blog post “6 Steps to Go Viral on Pinterest” generates a lot of free traffic for me because it provides resources and provides readers with solutions to their Pinterest problems.
Long Post is beneficial to get noticed on google. The longer the post, the better. But!! Don’t just write a long boring post, that isn’t informational and isn’t solving your readers’ problem. In one of his blog posts, Neil Patel stated that he likes to aim for posts that contain about 3,000 words.
I personally aim for about 1500 words. I have noticed those posts of 1500 words generate the most traffic for me. Creating high-quality content that others find useful is a great way to generate more shares. It also increases the likelihood that other sites will use your post or reference it. Boom! You just earned yourself a backlink.
Use Alt Text A.K.A. Image SEO to Boost Organic Traffic
What is Alt Text? Alt-text is a form of accessible web design. Its purpose is to describe images for people who cannot see them. If you use Yoast SEO, you probably are familiar with using Alt Text for your blog images.
The reason why Yoast recommends you use them is that they are contributing factors to your SEO efforts. Using alt text for your images can aid in increasing your blog traffic
Have you ever wondered how Google knows what images to display in search results?
When writing your alt text, you still want to include target keywords that describe your image. However, don’t include words such as “picture of” or “image of.” Also, remember not to not keyword stuff.
Increasing your organic traffic isn’t easy. But once you achieve obtaining more traffic to your blog, you will definitely be elated.
Trying to figure out why you are not receiving organic traffic is super time-consuming. This is why I use SEMRush, the software lets me know what areas my blog and website needs improvement and gives me solutions to the problems.
