I’m sure if you are a blogger you have heard how much traffic Pinterest can generate to your blog. And I’m sure you want the Pinterest recipe for success to grow your blog traffic too. When I first started blogging I was on the fence about Pinterest.
I didn’t really know what a “pin” was and I thought Pinterest was only for DIY crafts and products. I was wrong. So after a month or two of not getting any traffic to my blog, and feeling discouraged I finally decided to drink the Pinterest juice.
I started reading every single piece of information I could about Pinterest. I signed up for various courses about Pinterest, some helpful some not.
But I finally figured “IT” out, and my traffic actually did begin to trickle in. I continued to do “IT” and over the next couple of weeks my traffic continued to increase.
What is “IT”? I’m not going to be stingy. I’m going to tell you step by step what “IT” is.
This is my Pinterest Recipe for Success to SkyRocket Your Blog Traffic.
When creating a pin for Pinterest, you want to create vertical pins. Why? Because vertical pins typically get more attention. The dimension for creating the correct size vertical pin is 800 x 1200.
If you don’t want to have to worry about sizing everything out, Canva has a FREE membership option that will take care of the sizing for you. Just click on the option for creating a Pinterest graphic.
You want to draw people’s attention to your pin. Why? Because you want them to save, re-pin and clickthrough to your website.
The best way to help achieve this goal is to create graphics that are appealing. For me I have noticed, that pins containing red, pink and green perform better.
Here is one of my top performing pins. Check out the design. It’s mostly white, does not contain faces, and the font is large and readable.
Using the Correct Keywords in Pin and Board Descriptions
Pinterest is not a social media site. It’s a search engine, which means you need to sprinkle keywords in your board and pin descriptions.
When writing your pin and board descriptions consider these three things;
What is the desired action you want your prospect to take? (e.g. like, share, read, subscribe, comment, buy etc.)
What is the exact emotional state that will drive that action? (e.g. curious, relaxed, fearful, inspired etc.)
Choose some of the words from this list and sprinkle ‘em throughout your content.
Great Board Descriptions Helps to generate blog traffic
Here’s an example of a great board description.
For the sake of this example we are going to pretend you are making a pin for a blog you wrote about a family activity night.
Wanting to do something for family night that everyone will enjoy? Here’s a list of fun activities that will totally rock your family night. Click through for ideas that will create an awesome family night of activities.
At the end of my board and pin descriptions I like to use hashtags so that I can sprinkle a few more keywords in the equation. Don’t overdo it though, just add about 3 to 4 hashtags.
How Many Times To Pin a Day and When
A lot of people wonder when is the best time to pin. My belief is it is between 8pm and 11pm. However, I also use the TailwindApp a social media scheduler for Instagram and Pinterest. to schedule my pins.
Although, they have recommendations, you can also experiment with your pinning schedule, to gauge when your target audience is most active.
You should aim to pin about 30 times per day. Ok don’t freak out on me. I know your’e like “WTF I don’t have time or enough content to pin 30 times a day. But re-pinning will consistently will help increase your monthly views as well as help to grow your Pinterest account.
With the TailWindApp you can schedule and re-pin other people’s pins to count towards the 30 pins.
Join TailWind Tribes
The benefit of joining a TailWind Tribe is they share your content and you share theirs. By getting your content re-pinned by other tribe members, you have the potential to get more traffic to your blog.
